    This 660-hour apprenticeship program focuses on set-up and operations of a variety of machine tools, fitting and assembling parts to fabricate or repair machine tools and maintaining industrial machines. Students will apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machine procedures. Dismantling machines or equipment, using hand tools or power tools to examine parts for defect or to remove defective parts will be covered. Students will learn how to weld parts, using arc or gas welding equipment, repair or replace faulty wiring, switches or relays.

Topics that will be covered include: monitoring control panels, adjusting valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate sewage flow, observing variation in operating conditions and interpreting meter and gauge readings, and test results to determine load requirements, starting and stopping pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration and sludge digestion processes.     This course is an introduction to welding and the primary focus is SMAW (shielded metal arc welding) or stick welding. Other topics covered are welding safety, safe use and maintenance of tools and equipment, safe shop keeping, welding terms and metallurgy, oxyacetylene cutting and gas welding, plasma cutting, brazing and soldering and structural welding in all positions (flat, vertical and overhead). Information on AWS (American Welding Society) membership and welding certification will be provided. Books, supplies and personal safety equipment are not included in tuition.

    This course is a more in depth study of application and techniques of SMAW (shielded metal arc welding) or stick welding, welding pipe and pipe joints, oxyacetylene and plasma cutting. Other topics are GMAW (gas metal arc welding) or MIG welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding) or TIG welding of carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Safety procedures are included in all units of instruction. Information on AWS (American Welding Society) membership and certificate of completion will be given to those who successfully complete 80% of the course.
